Permit me to
introduce our FOUNDING QUEEN MOTHER, Maggie Then!
Maggie Then hails from Chicago. She graduated from Cornell with a degree in English Dramatic Arts, and then attended Northwestern and obtained an ABL in Law. Out of college, she worked as an assistant to the director of rent control in Chicago.
Some years later, in 1969, she and husband Ed and their family moved to Atlantic Beach, Florida where they bought a 12-unit condominium and became landlords.
In 1989, Maggie and Ed moved to Sun City Center where she became involved in social and civic activities at North Lake. Maggie is a very energetic, busy, organized, creative and fun loving woman! She enjoys planning at least one big event each month for the Scarlett O"Hatta's. Under Maggie's leadership, members have enjoyed two years of fun in visiting museums, plays, castles, festivals, horse races, fairs, pajama parties and more!
Her lovely outfits and spirit make for a great club and many fun-filled adventures. She lives in a lovely home with her husband, Ed who was crowned "The Duke of Chores!" Maggie loves to give Royal Names to her "Royal Court!".
This is only one of her creative endeavors. You should see her gathering many of her 659 members onto buses to attend dinner shows and shopping expeditions! It is quite a sight! She does it with flair and style!
This chapter was founded on June 1, 2000 by Maggie Then. We now have 659 members! It is by far, the largest chapter of the Red Hat Society! We thank Maggie for ALL of her hard work, time and energy! Maggie, you are one in a million! Long Live The Queen!
Phyllis Lee "Vice Mother"
This lovely Red Hat lady is Phyllis Lee our "VICE-Mother!" Phyllis is in charge of "VICE!" Phyllis helps Maggie in many ways. Together they discuss plans for our monthly events. Phyllis checks us in, as we board the buses and has been known to entertain us on bus trips with jokes and interesting information.
One of Phyllis' duties is Official Tour Guide for visiting dignitaries to Sun City Center. When Exalted Queen Mother Sue Ellen Cooper, visited us in SCC, Phyllis took Sue Ellen in a golf cart, on a tour of SCC. Phyllis has lived in SCC for nineteen years and knows all of the shortcuts and fun places to visit. Phyllis loves SCC and it shows! While on the tour, Phyllis was having her driveway refinished. The workman was wearing a RED baseball cap and Phyllis and Sue Ellen commented on his RED hat. The workman was so impressed with the concept of the Red Hat Society that he convinced Sue Ellen to autograph his truck! She had to crawl all the way to the back of the truck to sign her name. What a gracious lady to do this! So you see, a tour with Phyllis Lee is bound to be an adventure!

The "TOP SHELF" is a favorite of the Scarlett O'Hatta's! This QUILT demonstrates the organizational skills, sewing talent, artistic design and intelligence of this truly phenomenal woman. We are so proud of Linda and appreciate ALL that she does for us! Thank you so much, Linda!
